Vertical Grid System

Every flying buttress extension is seen as a perpendicular ground level, and starting from south eastern side, the grid gets bigger by 0.5m at every flying buttress extension. Red is on the both sides of the second flying buttress - meaning: none of the spaces are distorted to meet the adjacent grid, they are simply straight extrusions of the frame.

Meandering Routes

Mont Saint Michel from top. The built part of the Mont Saint Michel is the south and east side. This illustration is orientated towards west on top.

The entrance is from southern skirt of the mountain, the yellow indicates the route to the abbey. There's a church, hotels and tourist information buildings on the sides.The diagram on right is the interior walk including terrace round walks starting from the interior of the abbey. The experience is all interlocking indoor spaces.

The exit walk is a different route with restaurants and shops on the sides.

Flying Buttress Mountain

As a diagram, this is the complete building. My aphorism for the Ruskin's Lamp of Memory chapter is about being against the idea of "complete building". Buildings are never complete and every room in a building has a potential of becoming another building within the larger.

The boundary, the perimeter is what divides the building from the city, fortified to become another city in itself. The criteria and the technique of defining this boundary is also important.
